Local Attractions

Think Wales. Think mountains, scenary, endless beaches and rugby! But there's much, much, more .....

There are castles and historic houses, gardens and museums, galleries and craft shops. Watch red kites and dolphins ride a narrow gauge railway or a roller coaster or just visit a local market  there is something for everybody!

In this part of our site we have tried to list just a few of our most popular attractions but if you want to get active have a look here.

So where do we begin?

For the kids why not take a tour down the "Big Pit" at Blaenavon and then go below ground again at the showcaves at "Dan yr Ogof" but be careful because you might see a few dinosaurs when you come out! In Wales we often say that you have "three tries for a welshman" (tri tro i gymro) so for your third visit below ground you can even look for gold at the National Trust's Dolaucothi. If they want more excitement have a thrilling ride at the Oakwood theme park or take a jet boat around the islands off Pembrokeshire.

For the gardeners amongst you there is the National Botanic Garden of Wales just down the road and you can make a day of it by calling in at the "Garden lost in time" at Aberglassney on your way home.

If you want to take in some of our heritage we have six castles in Carmarthenshire alone and that includes some spectacular views at Carreg Cennen and Llandeilo. We would also recommend a visit to the National Folk Museum at St Fagans and this can be easily combined with a visit to Cardiff Castle (and a little light shoping perhaps!)

We have listed a few more ideas for your consideration and if you look at the "tours" section you will find some circular routes recommended by previous visitors.
